Sinatra and swing band music play as you enter a deco period airport terminal with a film noir ambiance. Sip elegant cocktails and savor gourmet foods while mingling with men in fedora hats and women in glamorous dresses as you appreciate vintage aircraft from the '30s, '40s, and '50s.
In July of 2011 the newly restored Lockheed Electra Junior 12A travelled from Jacksonville Florida to Oshkosh Wisconsin for the annual EAA Airventure Airshow. Airventure is the world largest airshow with more than 12,000 airplanes and 800,000 attendees. The Lockheed 12A, formerly owned by Phillips Oil Company in 1938, proudly added the Lockheed to the Conoco Phillips Square as a featured display (see video). The Lockheed drew thousands of spectators, admiring the art deco polished beauty and the restored originality of the 1938 aircraft.
After many hours of judging by Vintage Aircraft Association judges and competing with numerous restored vintage aircraft, the Lockheed won the greatest honor of Grand Champion Vintage Aircraft. Looking back on the 2 year restoration project and more than 10000 hours of labor, David Marco and Kirk McQuowen realized their dream of restoring a1938 aircraft to it's original pristine condition and proudly accepted the award in appreciation of their dedication to this project.
